It's time to pretty up your feet for Summer and get ready for a season of sandals. Here are a few tips to the do-it-yourself pedicure.

  • Remove any old polish from your toe nails
  • Soak your feet in four to five inches of warm water. Add Epsom salts or your preferred foot bath. Soak for no more than 10 minutes.
  • Remove your feet from the water and pat dry. Use a wet loofah sponge and an exfoliator product to gently clense and exfoliate your feet. For the rough areas, use a pumice stone.
  • Rinse your feet and pat dry.
  • File your toe nails straight across. Round them just slightly at the corners so they do not dig into the flesh of your toes and cause an ingrown infection. Buff out any ridges on the surface of your toenails so you have a smooth surface on which to apply your nailpolish.
  • Rinse your feet one final time and remove residue created from filing.
  • Pat dry again and this time pamper your feet and lower legs with a lanolin-based moisturizer. Give yourself a treat by massaging your feet when applying the lotion. Allow the moisturizer to set into the skin before applying your nailpolish.
  • Remove all lotion from your toenails with nailpolish remover.
  • Now it's time to polish your toes. Electric colors are very popular for this spring and summer and a look great with a fresh tan. Consider painting your toes electric blue, fiery red, bright coral or hot pink.
